| Staff from South Pacific Smiles including Dr
Mahony and Dr Riemer visited the village of Mangililu to give educational
talks on dental hygiene and nutrition to the indigenous children there as
part of the initial stages of what staff hope will be an ongoing initiative
to improve dental-health awareness on the islands of Vanuatu, particularly
among the native population. It is hoped that in the near future
toothbrushes and toothpaste will be given to each individual child to assist
in this cause.

The staff also examined several children who had ongoing
dental pain.

SPS staff plan on making visits to the villages of Efate a
regular occurence. This is done at no cost to the and in the Doctors
own time, as a means of giving back to the Vanuatu community. If anyone
would like to make a contribution to this venture, the donation of
toothbrushes and/or toothpaste would be greatly appreciated. Alternatively
any old clothing that you can spare would be welcomed by the villagers, as
they have only the bare necessities.
